Guna Milan compares the Moon's nakshatra in both charts across eight parameters, called kootas, which together carry thirty-six points. They cover temperament, mental compatibility, physical constitution, family orientation, and the natural affinity between the two nakshatras.

Nadi and Bhakoot carry the heaviest weight, which is why two charts can score respectably overall and still need careful discussion, or score modestly and still be workable once the rest of the chart is examined.
